Lewis Hamilton – Driver of Change

Following the launch of its new Pilot’s Watch collection at Watches and Wonder in April, IWC Schaffhausen features ambassador Lewis Hamilton in its newest global advertising campaign.

Lewis Hamilton, seven-time FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Champion and IWC brand ambassador since 2013, is a passionate ‘driver of change’.

 

Hamilton utilises his platforms to speak up about social issues relating to diversity and inclusion, particularly in his sport. Renowned as an athlete that has pivoted from chasing records in his sport to chasing change, Hamilton is the perfect Ambassador for this collection. Hamilton wears several timepieces from the new collection: The Big Pilot’s Watch 43, the Big Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition ‘Mojave Desert’, the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar and the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41.

IWC Schaffhausen- History of Precision and Craftsmanship

In 1868, American watchmaker and entrepreneur Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the ‘International Watch Company’ in Schaffhausen.

 

His vision was to fuse the advanced American manufacturing methods with the craftsmanship of Swiss watchmakers to create the best pocket watches.

 

This laid the foundation for IWC’s unique engineering approach and established themselves as a pioneer in the production of instruments for aviators. In present day, IWC Schaffhausen maintains its reputation for creating functional complications that are ingenious, robust and easy to use.

Pilot’s Watches – Magic of Flight

The history of IWC Schaffhausen’s dates back to the early years of aviation.

Precision was a vital element to ensure survival and in response to this desire, IWC Schaffhausen developed the ‘Special Pilot’s Watch’ in 1936 (Reference IW436).

Many watch developments later, the modern age of IWC Schaffhausen’s pilot’s watches began in 1992, with the creation of the ‘Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph’ (Reference IW3711) that established and cemented IWC’s reputation as experts of aviation instruments.
