We are immensely proud of the women in our company and we celebrate them this International Women’s Day. Women have played and continue to play an integral role in all areas of our business.

 

We catch up with Helen Gregory, our Co-CEO to discuss female leadership and working in a family business.

Women are integral to the past, present & future of Gregory Jewellers. My Mother & Aunt were founding members of Gregory Jewellers & today we proudly employ 153 women across our head office & retail teams. We also produce Australian jewellery for Australian women to make them feel their confident best!

Who inspires you and why?

 

No one inspires me more than my Family – their story and the heritage that is Gregory Jewellers.  They faced years of adversity and were challenged in so many ways but they never gave up.

 

I am inspired by their inner-strength, resilience and the skills they used to achieve their success to motivate the generations to come.

 

Big shoes to fill, but I think we are filling them!

 

What forms the foundation for a successful family business? 

 

Living and breathing our Core Family Values in everyday life and in all that we do.

 

These have been built into the business over the decades and driven the Vision for Gregory Jewellers.  These core values have forged the way for strong leadership in the industry but most importantly for us at Gregory Jewellers, it is the instilling of these core values to our great employees, whom we refer to as our Family.

Being in its third generation, how do you feel you have influenced the future of Gregory Jewellers? 

 

Without the generations before me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. We are proud to be a successful family business since 1967.

 

Jewellery runs deep in my veins, it is an emotion for me.  Not a product, not a brand.

 

Gold, Diamonds, Gemstones and what Jewellery represents has the ability to surpass our survival and be remembered for generations to come. Living through the digital era, my influence and vision is to connect Gregory Jewellers to the world.

 

What are your tips for balancing work and home life, particularly when working for a Family Business?

 

You are asking the wrong person!

 

Business never sleeps and neither do I.

 

We are always searching for ways to grow and that means always talking about Gregory Jewellers – breakfast, lunch and dinner! My way of finding balance is going off the grid and having that change in time zone, culture and environment. I switch off the mobile (or try to anyway!).  With locked borders due to COVID-19, this is making it impossible, so I haven’t found balance since 2019!

What leadership advice would you pass on to future female leaders?

 

I hope to see more female leaders in the future in all industries worldwide.  We all have a voice, but sadly in some parts of the world, some women are not heard.  My advice is to truly believe in yourself, we are all unique. Kindness goes a long way too.
